Once when chopping, twice when burning and thrice when scoffing your face full of pizza. Sadly, some of the birch I have left is a right bastard of a job to chop with an axe. More knotty than Lord Knott of Knotty Ash. With knots. And something.
And with this warm weather we’ve had of late (translation; not bloody freezing your nuts off) I’ve been putting in bitesize chunks of time into storing next year’s wood collection. On the floor in this shed it just gets mouldy so I’ve put the knackered garden furniture to good use and kept it away from the walls and propped the door open with a rather hefty slice of birch. Plenty of air circulation in there now, hopefully we’ll be burning the smaller pieces by the end of the year. The larger stuff here is mainly oak and the rest is cherry. Should burn nicely. I’ll cut the oak when it’s a bit more seasoned.
