Le sandwich – it’s the same word in French as it is in English but with more of a sexy pronunciation. We’re pretty good at sandwiches (sarnies / butties – take your pick) en Angleterre though so coupling up the French bread with the English savoir faire definitely delivers the goods.
Same recipe – 500 flour, 300ml water, 10g salt and 7g dried yeast – but split this onto a baguette tray (ours holds 3 but we elected to just use 2) and you’ve got yourself something ready to take some belting ingredients. You can get these trays at good cook stores – we carted ours all the way back from a fab cookery shop in Le Mans. We opted for warm chicken salad and a delight it was too. This bread was made by Pizza Geek Jnr – he’s a chip off the old block and long may it continue.
